Debt Arrangement Scheme vs. Scottish Trust Deeds

The Debt Arrangement Scheme also uses Scottish government legislation to help you manage your debt and is an alternative debt help option to Scottish Trust Deeds.

In order to establish which Scottish debt option is the best for you, the best thing you can do is complete the enquiry form opposite and allow an advisor to speak to you and find out about your situation. Don’t worry about disclosing your finances to a stranger, at Trust Deed Scotland, we have spoken to many individuals in the same situation as yourself and all advice is completely 100% confidential.

It is important to review your situation with an advisor as there are conditions, advantages and disadvantages to both the DAS and Scottish Trust Deeds. It is also important to note there are other debt help options such as the certified sequestration, debt management plans or even debt consolidation loans.

Also take note that all debt help options in Scotland will harm your credit rating in some way and the level of severity depends largely on the debt help option that you choose.

Scottish Trust Deeds can help you clear unsecured debt greater than £10,000 but in order to qualify for Scottish Trust Deeds as your preferred Scottish debt help option, you would require a sufficient disposable income in order to offer your creditors a reasonable repayment and avoid being sequestrated due to non-payment. Up to 90% of your unsecured debt can be cleared with Scottish Trust Deeds and perhaps more favourably, Scottish Trust Deeds allow you to become free from debts within a typical period of 36 months.

A Debt Arrangement Scheme on the other hand is perhaps more suitable for those with too high or too low an income and for those who have surplus equity in their property.

A DAS is slightly more advantageous for those most concerned about their credit rating but remember all debt help options will impact your credit rating, your credit rating will already be affected if you have missed payments and had a default notice served against you AND with careful credit repair work, you will be able to rebuild your credit.

The unfortunate disadvantage of being on a DPP is that the debt must be repaid in full. (Interest and charges will be legally frozen.) and this is averaging 8-9 years for most people.

Avoid any debt help option company who may charge you setup fees to process your application. Likewise, avoid anyone who charges DAS setup fees.
