The Accountant in Bankruptcy have released their latest quarterly results and the official stats show that 2,049
Protected Trust Deeds have been recorded - a 2% drop from the same period at this same time last year.
The stats show all records of personal insolvency in Scotland but perhaps the most eye-catching statistic released is that the number of recorded
Debt Arrangement Schemes have virtually doubled from 440 in Q3 2010/2011 to 878 in Q3 2011/2012.
Trust Deed Scotland who in 2010/2011 spoke to thousands of Scots experiencing financial difficulties, commented on the findings "In theory it sounds like Scotland is dealing with its personal debts but in actual fact not much has changed.
We are seeing greater Certificate for Sequestration and DAS numbers as the government have revised the legislation and greater publicity is evident. The overall number of Protected Trust Deeds for 2011/2012 will hit an unprecedented 10,000 if Q1 of 2012 follows a similar pattern to Q1 2011.
Thousands of Scots every year experience difficulties repaying their credit card debts and the reported overall increase in the number of people relying on payday loans and bank overdrafts to maintain debt repayments and interest charges is continuing.
It seems distressing that in only three months 2,000 more Scottish residents entered into a Protected Trust Deed as they had no other way of realistically dealing with their unmanageable debt but there is a crumb of comfort in knowing that the majority of those people and their families are now in a more financially secure place - able to look forward to a life free from debt in only three years."
